Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand's largest school with a roll of up to 24,000 ākonga (students) at any point of time. We provide personalised and authentic learning programmes through distance education from early childhood to NCEA Level 3, including to young adult and adult learners.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position:
As a Kaiāwhina at Te Kura, you are dedicated to empowering ākonga by providing comprehensive support to ensure they can confidently access and excel in their learning. Kaiāwhina are a key part of the learning delivery team, working closely with individual ākonga and other regional kaimahi to enhance engagement, navigate systems, and promote wellbeing
As a key figure in the lives of ākonga, the kaiāwhina ensures emotional and cultural inclusion, offering mentorship, motivation, and encouragement in both individual and group settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support ākonga's access to online and in-person learning, helping them plan their next steps.
- Collaborate with regional kaimahi to identify ākonga who need extra support and guide them in engaging with learning and external experiences.
- Foster an inclusive environment, providing emotional and cultural support as a mentor and significant adult for ākonga.
For this position, we offer a salary range starting from $61,412 to a maximum of $74,569 per annum. The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate's unique combination of skills, qualifications, and relevant experience.

We are looking for an empathetic, motivated individual who can build strong relationships with ākonga, supporting and encouraging them to achieve their learning goals.
- Build rapport and trust with ākonga, fostering a sense of value and confidence in their abilities.
- Mentor and support ākonga individually or in small groups, encouraging participation in learning activities.
- Help ākonga develop their learning plans and navigate Te Kura systems.
- Demonstrate cultural responsiveness by acknowledging and integrating ākonga's culture, language, and identity into their learning experience.
- You will be expected to be aware of the health and safety requirements for working with ākonga outside the classroom and comply with the school's policies at all times.
Knowledge and experience of Tikanga and Te Reo Māori is an advantage.
