At Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura), our ākonga are always at the centre of what we do. For more than a century, we've supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today's future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.

Ākonga at Te Kura choose subjects based on their passions and interests, accessing learning online supported by kaiako who guide, inspire, and drive engagement. Alongside this, kaiako provide pastoral care and connect with ākonga through regular huinga ako — online or face to face — where learners connect, receive guidance, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

Do you thrive on creating engaging learning experiences and building strong, supportive relationships with ākonga?

We're seeking a passionate Kaiako to join our Northern Region team. If you have a solid background in primary teaching, especially with Years 4–8, this could be the perfect next step. This position is based in the Auckland Te Kura tari (office) on Queen Street with regular travel to South Auckland for ākonga (student) hui.

What you'll be doing

• Encouraging ākonga to explore learning that connects to their aspirations, interests, and strengths
• Leading huinga ako both online and in person, creating opportunities for connection, wellbeing, and personalised pathways
• Offering meaningful, constructive feedback that helps learners grow their confidence and skills
• Collaborating with colleagues and whānau to design flexible, creative, and responsive learning experiences
• Showing commitment to developing your te reo Māori and strengthening your bicultural capability

Ko koe tēnei | About you

You'll bring:

• New Zealand teacher registration and a current practising certificate
• Experience teaching within the primary years (Years 1–8) and a solid understanding of the NZ Curriculum
• A genuinely caring, inclusive teaching style that puts ākonga at the centre
• Confidence using a range of digital tools to communicate, collaborate, and support engaging learning
• A team-focused mindset, optimistic energy, and a real passion for teaching and learning
