Based in one of Te Kura regional offices: Wellington, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Hastings, Rotorua, Gisborne, Wairoa, Tauranga, Hamilton, Auckland, Whangarei, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill or Queenstown

Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand's largest school with a roll of up to 24,000 ākonga (students). We provide personalised and authentic learning programmes through distance education from early childhood to NCEA Level 3, including tamariki (Y0-8), rangatahi Y8-10, and adult learners.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced kaiako to join our whānau, in Ngā Kete o Te Ao Māori, in with experience in teaching one or all subjects, Te Reo Māori NCEA, Kaupapa Māori NCEA. This is an exciting opportunity to nurture and develop ākonga in their journey through te ao Māori, while contributing to the preservation and advancement of Māori performing arts and culture in Te Aka Taumatua.
Te Aka Taumatua is a new team that leads our bilingual and immersion te reo Māori provision for full-time, tamariki, rangatahi and dual registered ākonga at Te Kura. Te Aka Taumatua is still in its developmental stage but remains focussed on its role in the revitalisation of te reo Māori, to offer comprehensive options grounded in mātauranga Māori for ākonga and their whānau.
Te Aka Taumatua is a vine system that wraps around rākau. The vines carry the knowledge and wisdom of our people. It is a place that protects, nurtures and gives room to grow. One can come to seek shelter and safety and can then leave to go.
This role presents an opportunity to shape the next generation of young Māori leaders while contributing to the revitalization of te reo Māori and preservation of Māori performing arts. The successful candidate will join a supportive whānau committed to excellence in Māori education.

- Strong proficiency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga
- Deep knowledge of Te Ao Haka and its significance in te ao Māori
- Experience in NCEA assessment and moderation
- Understanding of local iwi histories and traditions
- Ability to create engaging learning experiences that connect ākonga to their cultural heritage
- Strong relationships with whānau, hapū, and iwi
- Commitment to the preservation and advancement of te reo Māori
