We are looking for someone special, he kura pounamu, to lead, grow and inspire others in this unique leadership role.

Mauria mai tō kete mātauranga, me ōu pukenga maha. This is an opportunity to shape the educational pathways of ākonga learning in bilingual and immersion settings, while leading the ongoing development of Te Aka Taumatua as a distinct and growing provision within Te Kura.

 Te Aka Taumatua brings together kaiako and kaimahi delivering learning through te reo Māori and within te ao Māori. As National Manager, you will provide full educational leadership of this provision — including curriculum, teaching practice, and ākonga outcomes — within the unique context of distance learning.

Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand's largest school and distance education provider, providing flexible, personalised learning to ākonga across Aotearoa and to ākonga living overseas. Te Aka Taumatua was established in 2022 as part of Te Kura's commitment to strengthening bilingual and immersion learning. It supports ākonga to access education through te reo Māori and within te ao Māori, with a focus on high-quality, culturally grounded pathways.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About the role

As National Manager Reorua-ā-motu, you will lead Te Aka Taumatua — a growing provision currently supporting 1200 ākonga. This role carries full responsibility for teaching and learning within the provision.

You will lead curriculum delivery, strengthen pedagogy, and ensure strong ākonga outcomes, while continuing to grow and develop the provision over time.

Working alongside Regional Managers and other senior leaders, you will contribute to wider organisational direction while holding clear accountability for this distinct kaupapa.

He kōrero mōu ake | About you

You are an experienced educational leader with a deep commitment to kaupapa Māori education and a clear vision for the future of reo Māori and bilingual learning.

You will bring:

• Proven leadership of teaching and learning, ideally within Māori-medium, bilingual or immersion settings, with experience leading curriculum, pedagogy and ākonga outcomes at a whole-of-provision level
• Fluency in te reo Māori and a strong grounding in tikanga and mātauranga Māori, with the ability to lead authentically within a kaupapa Māori context
• The ability to lead and grow people and practice, building capability within kaiako and supporting high-quality teaching and learning
• Experience shaping or developing provision, with the ability to hold long-term vision while strengthening delivery in the present
• Strong relationship capability, including working effectively with whānau, iwi and education partners
• Confidence operating in complex and evolving environments, with the judgement to balance growth, quality and delivery
