Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand's largest school with a roll of up to 24,000 ākonga (students) at any point of time. Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position:
The Procurement Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight across Te Kura's procurement and contract management functions. The role leads a dedicated procurement team responsible for developing effective procurement options, maintaining fit‑for‑purpose policies and procedures, and supporting the organisation to embed value‑for‑money, best‑practice procurement processes.
This position plays a key role in guiding and enabling business units to manage their contracts effectively, recognising shared accountability for performance reporting, progress monitoring, and delivery outcomes. The Manager ensures that procurement activity across Te Kura is consistent, transparent, and aligned with organisational priorities.
The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and leads a small, high‑performing team to support the delivery of robust procurement and contract management services, contributing to improved organisational capability and performance. The position holder is expected to carry out all responsibilities in a way that upholds Te Kura's vision, strategic priorities, and values, while ensuring full compliance with Te Kura policies and procedures.

This role requires proven leadership in managing a procurement function and team, along with experience administering, supporting, and guiding public‑sector procurement policies and processes.
You'll bring a high level of professionalism to every interaction while holding excellent relationship management skills, including the ability to impart complex issues in well written business documents.
Key Skills and Experience
- Experience leading a high‑performing Procurement team, with a track record of coaching, capability development, and building a clear, strategic value proposition for the function.
- Strong strategic procurement capability, with the ability to shift a function from a reactive and transactional activity toward proactive planning, assurance, and value creation.
- Excellent relationship management and influencing skills, with the ability to partner with senior leaders and guide an organisation through procurement and contract management change.
- Experience driving organisational compliance, including designing controls, monitoring policy adherence, and providing assurance and reporting on procurement and contract risk
- Sound understanding of the Government Procurement Rules and public sector accountability requirement.
