At Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura), our ākonga are always at the centre of what we do. For more than a century, we've supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today's future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.
Ākonga at Te Kura choose subjects based on their passions and interests, accessing learning online supported by kaiako who guide, inspire, and drive engagement. Alongside this, kaiako provide pastoral care and connect with ākonga through regular huinga ako — online or face to face — where learners connect, receive guidance, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

Early Childhood Te Kura offers a free, individualised programme for ākonga/learners aged two to six years old. Learners enrol with the programme for various reasons including distance, itinerant, high health needs, special development needs, special circumstances.
This is an exciting role for an experienced ECE Kaiako who will work in partnership with parents/supervisors/whanau and develop an individual programme of learning for ākonga, using the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki– He whāriki mātauranga mō ngā mokopuna o Aotearoa.

This role requires someone who works collaboratively in a team, is willing to learn, is a problem solver, share ideas and builds respectful and reciprocal relationships.
Our programme uses various online communication tools, so you need to be able to be digitally literate and capable with technology.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced kaiako to be part of our Early Childhood teaching team, based in Wellington.

If you are an excellent communicator, self-motivated, show initiative, and are committed to improving education outcomes for learners, we would love to hear from you. With Te Kura working to become a bilingual organisation having proficiency or skills in Te Reo Māori would be highly desirable.
You will bring:
- New Zealand teacher registration and a current practising certificate
- Strong knowledge of the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki – He whāriki mātauranga mō ngā mokopuna o Aotearoa
- A calm, inclusive, and supportive approach to teaching and pastoral care
- Confidence using digital tools to connect with learners
- Enthusiasm for collaborative, values driven teaching
- A genuine interest in learning and embracing te reo Māori, with a commitment to growing your skills
